Overall Objective

The overall objective of the assignment is to contribute to the development of passenger rail service in the greater Kampala metropolitan area in order to stimulate socio-economic growth and provide an alternative mode of transportation to relieve congestion in the capital city of Kampala:

– Travel options that enhance communities,

– Safe travel and a clean environment

– Support economic vitality

Specific Objective(s)

The specific objective is to provide an assessment of the feasibility of passenger transport service – both current and proposed in the GKMA to answer questions on how rail transport could address the current congestion in the Kampala metropolitan area of Kampala, Wakiso, Mpigi and Mukono districts.

The objective of the URC is to determine whether current and planned passenger service operations in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area are feasible and what steps should be taken to make them economically viable.
