AU Media Fellowship
Detailed project description
The African Union Media Fellowship – Cohort II is a joint initiative of the AU, the EU and GIZ aimed at transforming media narratives on Africa by building the capacity of African journalists and content creators to produce innovative content that reflects the continent’s development and the AU-EU strategic partnership, in line with Agenda 2063.
Overall objective
To strengthen the capacities, resources and networks of African media professionals and content creators in order to produce innovative media content on Agenda 2063 and Africa’s development, whilst building a network of African media outlets with a thorough understanding of the AU’s functioning and its collaboration with the EU.
Specific objectives
• Empower African media professionals to challenge existing narratives about Africa and produce creative content related to the AU-EU partnership.
• Promote best practices, cross-border journalism and dialogue with decision-makers in Africa and Europe.
• Strengthen cultural, knowledge and networking exchanges between African and European media.
• Improve understanding of the Africa-EU partnership and its added value for continental integration within a multilateral framework.
• Highlight initiatives targeting young people and the people-centred approach of the AU-EU partnership.
Expected outcomes
• Production by each fellow of articles (at least 2), audiovisual and digital content promoting AU-EU collaboration and Agenda 2063.
• Development of innovative pitches leading to at least one final media product per fellow (video, article, podcast, press release).
• Production of 2 to 3 pieces of content per fellow and per event (study visits, AU summit, AU-EU events, activities with EU communication services).
• Achievement of a minimum of 15 placements or publications in relevant media during the implementation period.
• Organisation of two study trips to Addis Ababa and Brussels to enhance institutional immersion and networking.
