Mapping of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Service Providers and Development of a Comprehensive, Costed Expansion Strategy for ECCD Services in Lesotho

Detailed Project Description

The project, financed by the World Bank, aims to improve student retention and the quality of teaching in lower secondary schools in Lesotho, while at the same time strengthening Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) services. Aligned with the Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP), it builds on the achievements of the PAEBL project and focuses on strengthening the EMIS system, mapping ECCD centres, and planning their expansion.

Overall Objective
Improve the quality, equity, and efficiency of the education system, while strengthening school retention and early childhood development.

Specific Objectives
Assess and strengthen the EMIS system by integrating ECCD data;

• Identify and map ECCD centres nationwide;
• Integrate the data collected into EMIS;
• Develop a costed expansion strategy for ECCD services and its implementation plan.

Expected Results
A strengthened and more inclusive EMIS system;

• Comprehensive mapping of ECCD centres; improved data availability to support decision-making;
• An operational expansion strategy;
• And a measurable improvement in school retention and the quality of educational services.
