The Scaling-Up Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP) is a program of the Strategic Climate Fund, which is one of two funds under the Climate Investment Funds (CIF).
Madagascar is one of the African countries selected to benefit from the SREP programme. This programme site, designed to promote renewable energy in developing countries, allows Madagascar to benefit from a fund with an expected leverage effect.
The resources granted by SREP and those mobilised from donors are used to finance projects and initiatives selected by the country as priority actions in its investment plan.
Overall objective
The SREP was designed to demonstrate the economic, social and environmental viability of low-carbon development in the energy sector in developing countries. Specific objectives
The Madagascar SREP renewable energy investment plan was validated by the SREP Committee in June 2018 and consists of two projects:
- Development of rural electrification through renewable energy plants and mini-grids;
- Hybridization of JIRAMA’s isolated centers;
- This study concerns the project for the development of rural electrification through renewable energy plants and mini-grids and will be implemented by the Ministry in charge of energy with the World Bank.
