Detailed Project Description

The European Union Support for Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) Programme, aimed at strengthening the electoral cycle through five components targeting electoral administration, the legislature, political parties, the media and marginalised groups, implemented through thirteen projects between 2017 and 2022.

Overall objective
To contribute to the sustainable strengthening of democracy in Nigeria through strong, effective and legitimate electoral and political institutions that are aligned with national priorities and the recommendations of EU election observation missions.

Specific objectives
• To improve the quality of electoral administration and the management of the electoral cycle.
• To enhance the effectiveness of the National Assembly in exercising its legislative function in accordance with democratic standards.
• To strengthen pluralism, tolerance, internal democracy and equal opportunities among political parties.
• Promote fair, accurate and ethical media coverage of the electoral process.
• Consolidate the contribution of CSOs and relevant agencies to improving the electoral process and democratic governance.
